PROGRAM — Charter School

I have been an educator for eight years. My school is the right fit for me because it allows me to have the access to my family that I need. Living in rural North Dakota meant that my commute time was long to begin with, and even longer with inclement weather. Leadership Academy of Nevada allows me the time and safety of being closer to my family.

My school is driven by connections. As a staff, we have had the opportunity to come together from all over the world to build a community where we are all looking out for the best interest of our students. Our work week is structured in a way that allows us to communicate and have the students at the forefront of everything we do and that has truly been a game-changer for many of our kids. We get to be in our students’ worlds and they get to see a bit of our word as well.

“ALL parents, regardless of the aforementioned, want the best for their child.”

When I made the change from the traditional public school to the digital charter realm, I was afraid I would be missing out on creating those organic relationships with my students. I wouldn’t see them in the hallway between passing period, I would not longer have the opportunity to walk around and listen to the conversations going on during work time, and I wouldn’t be able to cultivate relationships that were meaningful. In short, I thought I would just be a talking head on a screen.

How wrong I was. Yes, the first few weeks were tough, but ultimately, I can honestly say that the relationships these classes have made with one another are arguably stronger than those in a regular brick and mortar classroom. The students are here because they want to be here. Them wanting to be here makes all the difference. They bring a smile to my face and I’m thankful to be able to say that I am their mentor.

” A normal public school may not always be the best option for students and parents can see and know this.”

Something I’ve learned as I’ve worked with different socio-economic groups, races, religions, and even regions of the country, is that ALL parents, regardless of the aforementioned, want the best for their child. A normal public school may not always be the best option for students and parents can see and know this. Charter schools allow parents and students to find the best fit for them and allows students of all backgrounds to have access to the best education for them.
