First let me say that we are a Christian family. Our children will grow to know what God has to say about them and not what the world wants to project on them. We chose Burlington Christian Academy because they are a loving caring and God-fearing Christian education academy. They believe in educating our children with academic as well as biblical truth. As a minister I approve of and appreciate this.
I also work at the school, and they have been a blessing in our lives. There is so much to tell from day one of our tour, to now almost two years later. The NC Opportunity Scholarship has opened this door and made school choice a wonderful experience for our family. Our son is in 5th grade and went from a “C” grade average to “A/B” honor roll. The curriculum is demanding and the expectations to succeed are clear. They make learning a priority and fun as well. God is expanding this vision, and we are grateful to be a part of it.
My husband and I are doing the best we can to make our children’s lives better than the way we grew up. I am originally from Brooklyn, NY and my husband was born and raised in Mebane, NC. Public education has been a part of both of our lives in different ways. I was exposed to some great opportunities growing up yet because of my financial background and home life, I was not able to afford to keep up and ended up not going as far as I could have earlier in life.
My husband grew up in the country and his parents worked hard to provide for their family. His education was not set up as a priority and he ended up being pushed through school and many educational difficulties of ADD and dyslexia were overlooked. Now I am a minister and continuing my education in college at 43. My husband has a lawn care business of his own since 2018.
We believe in a better educational opportunity for our three children regardless of what our finances look like. We still pay taxes and work as responsible citizens of our community and country. We should be able to choose the best educational institution for our children. The opportunity scholarship has helped us to be able to afford the best place for our son to go to school and have a better chance at success.
