The Louisiana School Choice Program has been very beneficial for my daughter Demetrice Shepard. As a single mother with today’s cost of living in Louisiana, the scholarship has helped pave a way to success for Demetrice.
Currently, only a limited number of public schools offer a high quality education in New Orleans. We are dealing with low school budgets, as well as corruption and students bringing illegal items to school.
I feel it’s important, as well as necessary, to have the school choice option due to the high cost of living and socioeconomic issues in New Orleans.
My daughter has benefitted from the Louisiana Scholarship since kindergarten. Recently, her prior school, Holy Rosary Academy, closed. I was faced with a dilemma of where she was going to go next. I chose St Katharine Drexel Prep for her and am happy I did.
Currently, Demetrice is in the 8th grade. She is adjusting well and enjoying the new things she is learning. She has more access to learning at school and at home with the Google Classrooms app. Overall, I am very grateful and appreciative for the Arete Scholarship!
