Why did you become an educator?
I became an educator to make a difference. I want to show students that, no matter your financial background or the color of your skin, you can achieve anything you put your mind to! I love opening my students minds to new concepts or even being an escape for those that need it. Growing up in a lower income area, I looked up to my teachers and knew I could achieve anything in life. I knew I didn’t have to live my life struggling for basic needs. My dream was to teach students from a background like myself and I can say I am currently living that dream!
What do you love about your school?
I love my school because of the opportunities we provide for parents and students. The majority of the families at my campus are from another country. The school where I teach assists parents with job training, ESL classes, parenting classes, and healthy eating classes. All of this while educating their little ones and preparing them for grade school and beyond.
Why is it important that lower income children can attend schools of choice?
It’s important because everyone should have that right! Being lower income should not equate to not having a choice in where you are educated. Our future educators, doctors, lawyers and politicians could be from any background. Education opens doors to opportunities that some may not imagine existed. That’s why it’s important to be able to attend schools of choice.

Being an educator you are more than just a teacher. You are a counselor, surrogate parent, nurse, peacemaker and some one to look up to. You will spend a good amount of your money to beautify your classroom, build your library or to conduct a special project. You have to be “all-in” to shape the future of tomorrow!
