AFC Celebrates Missouri House Leaders for Supporting Students, Expanding Funding for School Choice

The American Federation for Children (AFC) celebrates Missouri House leaders for including $50 million in state funding for school choice scholarships in their budget, which passed 95-48 on Thursday. A priority of Governor Kehoe, this move ensures that more students will be able to utilize a life-changing scholarship to access a school that meets their needs.

Statement from Ryan Cantrell, VP of Government Affairs, American Federation for Children:

“We are thankful for the steadfast leadership of Governor Kehoe and the House of Representatives, especially Budget Chair Deaton, Speaker Patterson, Leader Riley, Speaker Pro Tem Perkins, and the many parents and advocates who stood up to assert their right to a quality education. This investment in Missouri’s future will pay dividends for years to come by expanding education freedom to families who want it. It’s clear – Missouri parents are the new interest group, and they are not going anywhere. We are thrilled to see legislators listening.”

Details:

  • Governor Kehoe proposed an additional $50 million in state funding to expand access to school choice to more Missouri families. The House has now advanced this plan.
  • If enacted, this funding could provide another 7,000 students with access to an education that meets their needs and would work alongside the MOScholars Program, a tax credit-funded ESA currently serving 2,200 students.
