Kentucky Governor Vetoes School Choice Bill, Threatening Education Freedom for Thousands of Children
Earlier today, Governor Beshear of Kentucky vetoed House Bill 563. As passed by the legislature, the bill will empower hundreds of students across the state of Kentucky to attend a non-public school of their family’s choice.
Statement from Tommy Schultz, CEO-Elect of the American Federation for Children:
“We are discouraged by Governor Beshear’s decision to put powerful special interests before children and families in Kentucky. COVID has clearly shown the need for education freedom. Yet, special interest groups and politicians are attempting to deny the interests of families and children once again. It is a shame to see the Governor fold to the pressures of the unions time and time again. Now is the time to come together and do what is right for the children in Kentucky. We urge the legislature to stand up for kids and override this veto.”
