Oklahoma State Board of Education Stands Up for All Children
Yesterday, the Oklahoma State Board of Education voted to settle a lawsuit filed by state charter schools. The settlement ensures that all children in Oklahoma public schools will be provided equitable funding.
Statement from Jennifer Carter, Oklahoma Senior Advisor for the American Federation for Children:
“Oklahoma’s public charter schools are not just some of the best schools in the state, but even include one school consistently ranked as one of the best schools in the nation. Yet those same schools have been financially shortchanged for years because they did not receive their student’s share of local property tax funding.
“The State Board of Education made the right call by supporting equitable funding for all public-school students. Parents who pay property taxes for their children’s education should not have that money diverted away to schools that are not serving their children simply because they choose to send a child to a public charter school.”
