AFC-Texas Cheers Governor Abbott Educational Freedom Announcement
“Thanks to Greg Abbott’s leadership, the educational freedom movement in Texas has been lit on fire”
The American Federation for Children – Texas (TFC) today cheered Governor Abbott for his leadership in announcing a landmark change in supporting funding following the child to any educational setting of their parents’ choice.
“Empowering parents means giving them the choice to send their children to any public school, charter school, or private school with state funding following the student,” Governor Abbott said during a Parents Policy Event in San Antonio.
Mandy Drogin, TFC State Director, issued the following statement.
“With today’s announcement, Governor Abbott has made clear that Texas will prioritize student-centered educational policies that ensure that money will follow the student to any school their parents choose – this includes high-quality public schools, public charter schools, private schools, and more.
Students – not teachers, not administrators, not systems or bureaucracies – are the reason we have a constitutional right to an education, and that right must extend to a clearly articulated and well-funded system that allows parents to pick the school which is best for their child.
Thanks to Greg Abbott’s leadership, the educational freedom movement in Texas has been lit on fire, and TFC will work alongside the Governor to give every child in Texas a brighter educational future.”
