Gaby Ascencio is the Community Outreach Manager in Texas for the American Federation for Children (AFC). With a background as a Language Teacher, Translator, and Interpreter, Gaby brings an intellectual depth and sensitivity to her work at AFC. Her extensive experience has proven invaluable in interacting with families, particularly within the Latino community.
Gaby’s journey with AFC began in 2015 when she took on the role of Arizona Community Outreach Manager. During her time in Arizona, she engaged with families and community groups across the state, bringing years of deep experience in community engagement to her role in Texas.
Her presence has been felt across media platforms, including appearances on Univision, Telemundo, and various radio stations such as Enfamilia Radio and Prensa Arizona. Her expertise in organizing and cultivating relationships with families has significantly expanded participation in school choice programs.
Gaby’s academic journey started at the University of Texas at El Paso, where she earned a scholarship to continue her studies at The Sorbonne in Paris. She later moved to Stockholm, Sweden, where she worked for two years at the Embassy of Mexico. With over 20 years of teaching experience in ESL, Spanish, and French as second and third languages, Gaby has taught in several countries and at prestigious universities in Mexico.
