My name is Elizabeth and I am a teaching assistant for the middle school at Painted Desert Montessori Academy. This is my second year helping guide the beautiful minds of our middle school students.
One of my favorite things that Montessori education has to offer would be the freedom to be creative. They allow their students to find their creative flow in their work and this allows students to love their learning experience. Another thing I have come to love about Montessori education is hands-on independent learning. This shows in the younger grades where they can choose the order of their work allowing them to enjoy every aspect of the school day. Lastly, something found throughout the whole school is the focus every teacher puts on their students. Focusing on not only the education but also the social, emotional, and physical well-being of each of our students.

My time working at Painted Desert Montessori Academy has opened my eyes as an individual and educator. I’m constantly learning and evolving with the students I work with. Building a strong base with the students allows them to help me teach them. In the Montessori education system, I have found we can connect with our students seeing them find their love of learning.
More families should have the same privileges in exercising school choice because not every child learns the same. Students should not be restricted to a school because they live in a specific area. Children should have the choice in finding which education system profits them the best. This will allow them to blossom in their education and connect better with the education system.

School choice means giving students the choice of opportunity. Not restricting a child’s love to learn and allowing them to choose for themselves is extremely important. I believe giving children the choice will make them more enthusiastic about their education and future. I am currently still a student and being given the school choice means I get to research and find the school best for me.
