I am in the administration of a school choice school, St. Mary’s Academy. As a result of many parents having a choice of schools, they have had the chance to go to school themselves or get jobs to get off of public assistance. We see jubilation in our students eyes because they feel safe and loved. When parents choose a school they choose it because of the atmosphere, safety, security, and confidence of the environment.
It takes more than one year to bring a child up to grade level when they come from a failing public school. But it takes parental involvement, support, cooperation, and teamwork as well!
School choice offers the opportunity to select a school with smaller class sizes and quality campuses. Yet it costs more to educate a child in a public school setting. Most importantly, school choice offers parents preferences and children opportunity.
