I was homeschooled until middle school. Being homeschooled allowed me to explore my academic interests beyond just what was required. I was able to explore my interests, particularly in history, by reading books and visiting museums. Being homeschooled also allowed me to progress faster, ultimately allowing me to graduate high school a full year early. I received scholarships for my middle school and high school education at a private Catholic school. This school is well-known for being a place to explore music and theatre. It allowed me to participate in these activities that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. At Wahlert High School, I was also able to be challenged academically in a way that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to, allowing me to be accepted into every college I applied to.

“All families should be able to choose the right school for their child because everyone has different needs in terms of their learning.”

All families should be able to choose the right school for their child because everyone has different needs in terms of their learning. One child might thrive by being in a large class and working with others, whereas another child might be more independent and prefer to work online by themselves. Some schools are better catered to those of us who are more artistic, whereas others might be better for athletes. There is not one school that’s going to be able to fulfill every child’s needs, so families should be able to choose the best school for their child, regardless of price or location.
