My name is Mia Sandoval and both my son and daughter attend Mountain View Christian School. My son is eight years old and is in third grade, and my daughter is seven years old and is in second grade. We love this school. We are so happy!
I always knew that when I had kids that they would go to private school, because when I was a kid I wanted to be in private school. I went to public school and it was very overpopulated and overwhelming for me as a student. I always felt that I was always behind, or trying to catch up or trying to stay away from trouble. It was very difficult for me as a student, so I always knew I wanted a better path for my own children and private school was it.
Having my kids at MVCS has been an absolute blessing because my kids are thriving from the very strong, firm foundation that the school focuses on. My kids are amazing at communicating with me, expressing their feelings, expressing what they want from life and knowing who they are. I really don’t think they would have figured themselves out this early on if they were in a public school. This is really preparing them for their future.
The teachers at MVCS are very hands on. If one of my children is slipping in the classroom, I’ll get a text or email or someone will stop me after school and tell me that so and so is really struggling with this, go ahead and work on that with them. We’re always constantly working as a team to redirect the kids to the direction they need to be going in. We’re a team, family and a community.
Having the Opportunity Scholarship has given me the chance to give my kids the future that they deserve. If we didn’t have it, it would be devastating to have to put them in a public school. I would be sad for them, dropping them off to an overcrowded classroom where they’re not getting the attention that they need. I’m so thankful for the Opportunity Scholarship. We truly need it and if it wasn’t there, I don’t know what I would do.
Families should have school choice because everyone should have a choice. If you want to put your kids in public school, that would be fine. For me, I would not feel comfortable with public school because I know how hard it was for me. It is important we as parents have a choice where we put our kids because we know what’s best for them. We know who they’re going to be and it’s our job to guide them and to give them all the opportunities that we can.
