Michelle Mohr uses the Lindsey Nicole Scholarship to help cover the cost of tuition at Trinity School at Edgemere, where her daughter is thriving. Trinity is a private school that educates students with learning differences, each according to their specific needs, in a supportive and encouraging environment. Most students are supported by Oklahoma’s school choice programs, including the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship, Equal Opportunity Scholarships and the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit.
My daughter Payton was at public schools in Norman. In middle school she was experiencing more difficult times with her dyslexia and autism, and just wasn’t quite fitting in.
Payton was having a difficult time making friends. Every morning getting up to go to school was just a horrible, horrible challenge – screaming and crying. As a parent, it really is hard to sit and watch your kid not wanting to go to school. Every kid should enjoy going to school, having friends, having someone especially to sit at lunch with or to talk to when they go out on recess. She didn’t have any of that at all. She basically just stayed by herself.
Now that she’s at Trinity School at Edgemere, it is amazing. She has friends she talks to all the time; friends that come hang out at the house. If she was at a public school, she wouldn’t be able to experience any of the friendships that she does here.
My daughter has a learning disability. So, watching her cry was very emotional for me. Now, I’m getting to experience her being happy. So, it makes me very happy to have Payton want to get up every morning and go to school. It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders knowing that she wants to come to school.
Trinity is not only a school. Trinity goes out of their way to accommodate every way possible to help children find everything that they need for life.
